The Perfect Fathers' Day Weekend

As long as I can remember I have been a baseball fan. When Rando and I met baseball quickly became the perfect date. Our goal is to go to every MLB stadium. We've been to 4 so we have a ways to go, but next summer we plan on hitting the west coast for our 10th anniversary.

We've introduced our kids to baseball by going to 2 Gwinnett Braves games with them, but they had not been to Turner Field yet. We were given tickets for Saturday night and decided this would be the perfect night to let them enjoy their first Braves game! The night was PERFECT! We fed the kids in the car and then made our way inside the stadium. Our seats were in Section 212, under an overhang, in the shade, and right on top of the action! Avery and Ryleigh did an incredible job! Avery's eyes were glued to the game and Ryleigh went back and forth between watching the game and people watching. Homer came by and gave Avery a five. Well actually Avery would only touch him with 1 finger. It was cute! Rando and Ryleigh caught a foul ball. This was both of theirs first foul ball (I can no longer say I'm the only one in the family to have caught one). On top of all of this the Braves won with a walk off homerun! It was very exciting!

I heard over and over again how cute and how well behaved our kids are! We are so blessed with happy kids that love to go out in public! It is like they know the difference between playtime at home and public behavior. I'm sure there will come a day where we will want to pull our hair out (probably about the time they're 2), but right now we are just taking advantage of having the sweetest kids! This made for a wonderful way to celebrate Fathers' Day! I am so blessed to have a wonderful husband that loves me and our kids! He gets down on the ground to play with the kids, changes diapers, feeds them, and pitches in wherever he is needed! He is a team player and I greatly appreciate him! Avery and Ryleigh light up when they see their daddy! Rando, we love you!

I am so thankful that I know this kind of love! While a student at Shorter College (which became Shorter University yesterday) I met a guy that had a very interesting name. Well actually, my first encounter with him was while I was a senior in H.S. doing a college visit to Shorter. He had long curly hair and my comment in the car was that he had to be a friend of David Gordon (and he was/is... David knows I love him). This guy tells me now that he told a friend that he wanted to marry a girl like me. I'm not sure if that is exactly how it went, but I am very grateful it all worked out.

We had an interesting start. We both had dates to the sorority formal, but yet we started talking and then dating. We went on to the formal with our dates, but danced plenty that night. Just 2 weeks later we broke up, but couldn't stay apart more than 12 hours. On February 14, 1999 we began dating one last time (Rando says we broke up and got back together on this day so that he would be able to remember our anniversary). Our dating years were full of fun. Walks around Garden Lakes, climbing a water tower (shhhh....), 1/2 priced wings after 11 at Applebees, ministering together at Hollywood, and discussing our future dreams together.

On June 2, 2001 we became husband and wife. I can honestly say each day since I have fallen more in love with him every day! We have been through a lot, but I am so thankful that we are best friends and very RARELY have an argument. We've been through the scariest time for the US in our lifetimes - 9/11/01, living off of 1 income while seeking God for where he would have us serve, hard days at work, trying to have kids for 2 years, and so many more. Through each of these trials God brought us closer to Him and each other. I couldn't ask for a better partner in life than my wonderful husband.

The last 14 months have been an exciting journey. I love watching him be daddy! He changes diapers and feeds the kids with the best of them! He loves playing with the kids and making them laugh. They even already team up (4 on 1 - the dog included in that 4) against me! We share so many laughs. We still get time together too! We make every effort to have date nights and do things as a couple.

He respects me, understands me, and loves me no matter what! I am the most fortunate girl in the world! Rando, I love you and I thank God He blessed my life the day He brought you in it! I am looking foward to many more years! Happy 9th Anniversary!

Life and Its Curve Balls

WOW! The last month has been a roller coaster! After celebrating the kids' 1st birthday life changed fast! Easter Sunday I got a voice mail from my granddad saying his brother had a stroke and wasn't doing well. Uncle Jerry passed away later that day. My heart broke for my granddad as he lost his last living sibling. He and Jerry had been through so much together over the years (they lost both their parents before my granddad was 6 years old)!

As spring break came to a close and we went back to normal activities "normal" didn't last long. On Monday, April 12th, I walked out of a meeting to find a coworker telling me she saw my husband in the parking lot. I said, "That can't be good." She tried to assure me everything was okay because he had the kids with him. That made it even worse. The kids were suppose to be with my grandparents and Rando was suppose to be in a meeting. He told me my grandmother had fallen while watching the kids and was taken to the hospital via ambulance. So many thoughts rushed through my mind. As I got to the ER Adam told me she had a bleeding in her brain. I remember the whole time having a peace that I know could only come from God.

Come to find out my grandmother had a stroke. She did not wake up for 5 days after her brain surgery. I remember going to bed one night longing to hear her offer me some food 1 more time! I promise I would take her up on it! So many of her little facial expressions and gestures kept replaying in my head. I miss sitting on their couch listening to her stories and watching her play with the kids! They LOVE their great grandparents! After several long days she did wake up, but to this day is still not completely the same. I do have to share that last week while I was at the rehab center with the kids visiting her in the middle of a random conversation did the offer to make me something to eat! Tears welled up fast on that one! You see, I have NEVER been to her house where she didn't ask me multiple times if she could make me a sandwich or something. I had to promise her that I would when she got home b/c there was nothing for her to make me in that room. It is fun to watch her with the kids! Her and Ryleigh laugh and play hand games. Avery just smiles at her as she calls him "sweetie".

I cannot wait until the day when I walk into the room and she says, "Hey Amanda!" It has been so hard to see her like this! She doesn't realize what is going on or that she doesn't make sense a lot of the time she is talking. They say it will all come back, but it will take time. I'm not very patient!

The sweetest thing about this has been watching my granddaddy love on her! We begged him numerous times to go home to get some rest. He has said over and over again, "I've been with her 60 something years and I'm not going to leave her now!" So precious! His love for her has been obvious to everyone that has been around them! She notices him, calls him by name, and loves to give him kisses! Of course he is right there to hold her hand, calm her down, and give her kisses too! I pray that Rando and I will still have that love for each other when we are that age! My grandparents have been sweethearts since they were 5 and 7 years old! Simply AMAZING!

We are so grateful for the many that have prayed for "granny", sent cards, shared kind words, and been there for us throughout this time! She comes home this coming week! It will be good to have her home! God has truly worked miracles! First, he kept her alert long enough to call my granddad and Rando so that the kids could be taken care of. Second, he made the surgery go very easily! Third, in his timing He woke her up! And he continues to work miracles daily. Nurses, doctors, and other caregivers have been touched by the love of Christ that is so evident in my grandparents!

Granny, Happy Mother's Day! I love you and can't wait to spend time with you tomorrow!

WOW! I cannot believe it has been a year (April 3rd) since our precious babies entered this world! Being a mom is incredible! It has been more than I could have ever imagined! Being a mom has helped me understand unconditional love like our Heavenly Father has on us (even though I'm not perfect as He is) and the price my mom and dad paid for years (and still pay to this day).

I can honestly say our children are incredibly easy! Yes, there are hard days, but I am grateful for the fun personalities, huge smiles, nights of sleep, laughter for no reason, bright blue eyes, kids reaching up for me, the sounds of "mama" and "dada", and new discoveries daily!

Ryleigh Belle you are our sunshine! You are so full of personality! We can already see the leader in you! Your eyes grab the attention of everyone around, and they sparkle with every grin. You have a take charge / go get'em attitude. We pray that God will use this personality to reach many for Him and minister to those around you as you grow older. You are pulling up on everything and can walk sideways while holding onto things. You talk constantly (no comments from daddy please) saying "mama", "dada", and "gah". You are learning to wave too. You no longer army crawl and can get around very fast on your hands and knees! We love you sweet girl!

Ave-man you are our cuddlebug! You are so laid back and take life in stride! You are so much like your daddy it is crazy! Your smile captures the heart of everyone around you! Your eyes sparkle too! We pray that God will use your love for others and sweet spirit to spread the love of Christ to all that you come in contact with as you grow older! You are starting to pull up on things now. Sometimes you are just content to stay on your knees, but if you want something you will go all the way to your feet. You like to say "mama" and "dada". Other sounds come out as well. You give the sweetest kisses! You get around pretty fast using the army crawl! We love you buddy!

We have survived a year! I know that there is no way I could have made it without first our God, my awesome hands-on husband that is very involved, my mom who watches the kids almost weekly, and other friends and family that pitch in to help! We are also so grateful for a wonderful sitter while I work. Deborah, we love and appreciate you!

Last Saturday we celebrated the kids' birthday with lots of family, friends, food, fellowship, and gifts! It was a great day!

The last week and a half have been so emotional. I have felt so convicted over being in a crummy mood because snow messed up my plans the other weekend. So many people are facing extremely trying and heartbreaking times, and I was upset over missing a gymnastics meet!

Last Monday, one of my sister's best friends was admitted into ICU with double pneumonia. This young lady is usually a picture of health and it is still hard to believe she is so sick. The week was a roller coaster ride for her family and friends. As I sat with Dana at the hospital I was amazed at the faith this family has and how when things seemed to be crashing they still had their eyes on Jesus and placed their hope and trust in Him. She is still in ICU and needs our prayers. Yesterday the family got some encouragement from 2 doctors. Keep praying for this young lady, her parents, sister and brother-in-law, extended family, and friends. As a big sister I also ask that you pray for my sister Dana as you can imagine this is hard on her as she watches her friend struggle.

Friday evening Dana and Adam were coming over to our house for dinner and Wii. Rando got called out on a horrible chaplaincy call that would just break your heart. Not too long later we learned that one of our college students, Justin John, had passed away after a very long battle with cancer. The 4 of us were saddened, but also rejoicing in the fact that he was no longer in pain. Justin is now in the presence of our Lord.

On a positive note we had a dear friend and one of our former youth give birth to a healthy baby boy. We got to go visit with them and hold this precious baby Saturday night. Friday night some of our good friends told us they were having a baby girl!

I say all this because I have been reminded over and over lately that our God (the 1 true and holy God)never leaves us. He never changes, and He never loses control. We can trust Him in every aspect of life: sickness, death, parenting, work issues, ministry, and anything else we may face.

I do not understand how people go through life without Christ! If you do not have a relationship with Christ talk to one of us or a Christian friend/relative. He loves you and wants to have a relationship with you!

GymDogs 2010

4 years ago for Valentine's Day Rando surprised me with tickets to see the University of Georgia's gymnastics team compete. He had no idea how expensive this gift would end up being. 4 years later we are season ticket holders and hope to add the kids next year to our season tickets. We love it (and yes I said we)! It is amazing how athletic and incredible these ladies are. They have won 5 straight National Championships and even though this is a rebuilding year we have posted the 2nd highest score in NCAA this year!

Before the season started we got to go to a Meet and Greet with the team. We took mom and dad with us because they are always so good to take us to fun things. A few years ago we took dad to a meet kicking and screaming and now he wants season tickets too! We also met my "second parents" Hank and Debbie at the Meet and Greet. It was fun to get to talk to the girls and get a behind the scenes perspective from the new coach. Afterwards we enjoyed a steak dinner with mom and dad and The Maxwells!

Most meets we are using as date nights, but on February 5th we decided to take the kids to their first meet. I was nervous about this b/c having 2 we do not have any extra hands when we go out just the 4 of us! They were exceptional! They both loved watching the people around them and the girls perform. During the floor routines they danced to some of the music. Avery who usually is not our waver waved at Hairy Dawg. Hairy came over and held Avery for a picture.

We are looking forward to many more years of making memories while enjoying some good gymnastics and cheering on the Bulldogs!

Babies' First Christmas

As a kid you think Christmas could not get any better. Well, it does! What a joy to see Christmas through the eyes of your kids! They do not understand the true meaning yet of course, but I pray that one day they will understand that we give gifts and bless others because we have been given the greatest gift of all - Jesus. He truly is what Christmas is ALL about.

The kids loved Christmas. They actually opened many of their presents and played with the toys. Of course there was some eating of paper and playing with boxes as well. We were blessed to get to spend time with both sides of our family and lots of friends! I can't wait until next year when the kids understand a little more!

Been a long time so I will back all the way up: November 09

During the month of November the kids found a new love: Hockey! Dad was given box seats for the Gladiators and we enjoyed a great night with family and friends! The box was perfect for the kids because there was plenty of space for them to crawl around and play. Ryleigh's eyes were glued to the ice though. We may have a future hockey player on our hands!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We spent some time at Rando's parents (mammaw and pappaw) and then rode over to Alabama so the kids could meet the rest of Rando's family. It was a great time to catch up! Of course the kids got spoiled and we ate some good food. We drove home late that night.

On Friday, the kids got to meet my Aunt Mae (actually she is my dad's aunt and my great-aunt). She has always been like a grandmother to us. Her son Ernie and his wife were there as well.

On Saturday, we enjoyed the GA/GA Tech game with some great college/20's students at church! Of course we enjoyed the outcome as well!

We closed out November with pictures with Santa. The kids did great! Avery got tired of Santa fast and Ryleigh stared him down trying to figure out what the deal was with the beard!

Weekend Getaway - Oct. 9-12

Back in August I surprised Rando with tickets to the GA/TN game. Included in the gift was a cabin in the mountains, use of my mom's convertible, and other bulldog stuff. It worked out that the Friday before the game ended up being a furlough day for me so we got to leave earlier to enjoy some time shopping in Athens and then riding through the mountains.

At the game we got to see Rando's Aunt Debbie and my brother and sister (of course we see the 2 of them a lot but it was still fun to hang out with them). Dana and Adam actually got to sit with us. We would have liked to have seen a bulldog win, but we still had a great time!

The cabin was incredible! It was nice to relax and spend time just the 2 of us. We love our kids, but we also know it is vitally important that we keep our relationship strong! We ate lots of good food and did some shopping. We also got in a game of putt-putt. On the way home we made sure to stop and eat at the Dillard House. Thank you mom and dad for watching the kids so we could enjoy this time!

Halloween 09

Before I share about our Halloween I have to boast about my dad! Thursday at about 11:30 am he left Athens, GA on a bicycle (not a motorcycle) on a mission to ride to Jacksonville, FL! Several other HBC staff members joined numerous UGA Baptist Collegiate Ministries' students for the 2009 Ride for Christ - all proceeds going to send college students on the mission field this summer! Friday night dad pulled up to the Jacksonville City Limits still on his bike to a crowd of college students cheering him on! He rode 300 miles in 29 hours and 30 min. He was the only one to ride the whole 300 miles! This is a HUGE accomplishment! We are very proud of him! Of course Rando made sure we knew that he and Chip Cranford went 400 miles (in the support van).

While daddy, granddaddy, and Uncle Adam were enjoying (if that is what you want to call it) the GA/FL game Avery and Ryleigh transformed into Mickey and Minnie Mouse. They were precious! Ryleigh didn't like the getting dressed part, but she LOVED the attention later. Avery got tired of his costume after about 30 minutes at the Fall Festival. We just walked around and talked to people. Due to the rain the festival was moved indoors and the petting zoo animals didn't come. That was the only think that my kids could have done, but they enjoyed the people watching instead! They did get to see their friend Raleigh who was also Minnie Mouse.

Mickey and Minnie had fun with mommy, Aunt Dana, and grandma. After the festival we went to see Great Granny and Great Granddaddy Wynn! They gave lots of kisses to Mickey and Minnie!

It was a fun evening. Of course we wish the dawgs had won and that daddy could have seen them in their costumes, but we know he was helping raise money to send out missionaries this summer!

Avery and Ryleigh,

I cannot believe you guys are 1/2 a year old! You are so much fun and make every day exciting! I am truly blessed to be your mom!

Ryleigh, our first born:
You have a laugh that is contagious! You want all of the attention and we love to give it to you! You are a beautiful little girl! I love your BIG blue eyes that you get from your Aunt Dana. You are daddy's girl for sure, but you love your time with me too. You don't like to sleep because you are afraid you will miss out on something. I hear that you get that from me :o) You LOVE dogs. Whenever Noodle or Homer are nearby they have your full attention. You enjoy laughing at them and when they let you you enjoy petting them. You know how to get what you want whether it be by batting your long eye lashes or screaming. You are so close to crawling. You get frustrated with not being able to crawl. You still have a love for baseball, but you also like to watch Sid the Science Kid and football (especially the Dawgs). We are looking forward to all you will learn and do in the coming months! We love you so much and are blessed to be called your parents!

Avery, our little man:
Your smile melts my heart! You love to flirt and the girls seem to love you! You are so handsome! You are our laid back child. You love to observe and take things in. I think you get this from your daddy. There is no doubt that you are mommy's boy! You love playing rough and "flying" with daddy too though. You are always reaching out for Noodle and want her to cuddle with you so bad. You are also close to crawling. You are rolling everywhere. Just today you rolled up under my bed so that 1/2 of your body was under the bed and the other 1/2 was out. You are too cute! You love to watch Sid the Science Kid and football. You like cheering on the bulldogs with mommy! We love you so much and are excited about all that you will be learning and doing in the next few months. You are a true blessing to us!

Avery and Ryleigh, we love you both! You are both so different, but yet similar at the same time! You bring so much fun into our lives. Your daddy and I know that we are truly blessed to have such easy and good babies! We love you so much!

Busy Busy Busy

So I have not had a spare second to blog in forever. I really don't have the time now, but I have 2 rollers so during floor time I can't leave the room. I never imagined working with kids would be as hard as it has been! I knew I would be fine emotionally, and I have been in regards to separation from the kids. I never realized how much of a perfectionist I was at work and not being perfect would tear me apart!

I spent the first 3-4 weeks of school trying to figure out how I could quit. I have NEVER wanted to be a stay at home mom, but I was so down about not being able to be the best teacher that I was ready to walk out the door. Don't get me wrong... I love my school, coworkers, administration, and I have great students this year.

I am use to being able to work until 6 or 7 to have everything ready and be on top of things daily. Well, I can't stay past 3:30 most days with an occasional late day of working until 5 or 6. It has been a very hard adjustment for me.

All that being said, I love my children and wouldn't trade them for the world. In fact, after having our 2 flood days I know that I could be a stay at home mom even when I thought I never could be. I know that God has me where I am for a purpose. I just have to learn to balance the kids, work, and time with Rando better!

We celebrated the 4th in grand style! We loaded up the car, met mom, dad, Dana, and Adam, and headed to Gratis, GA. You are probably asking where Gratis is. It is in the middle of nowhere in Walton County (where we live). Gratis only has a gas station/general store. They have a jar out all year long to collect money for the fireworks.

Mom had fried chicken, chips, desserts, and drinks ready for us! Rando brought the entertainment - tailgating games! We had friends come with their families and they hung out with us at our tent.

I was amazed at how intrigued my kids were with the fireworks. They loved it!

We are so blessed to live in a nation where we are free! I pray that we never lose sight of how we got our freedom. Thank you to the many men and women have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. I am also grateful for my savior that laid down His life for my freedom from sin and death!

3 mths

WOW! I cannot believe my babies are 3 months old! The time has flown by. Managing 2 babies (and a husband) is getting easier by the day! Of course there are bad days where we take a few steps back, but overall things are going great! I love being a mom! Rando is a wonderful dad and jumps in to do whatever is needed!

Ryleigh Lynn:

Ryleigh loves baseball! She glues her eyes to the TV when the Braves are playing. She loves to swing in her swing as well. There is no doubt she is daddy's girl! She enjoys cuddling with him! She is most amused by looking at herself in the mirror. It is funny to watch her look at herself for hours. Her favorite toy is her Taggie (a glorified blanket). Ryleigh loves to eat. She doesn't waste food. She is now eating about 8oz at most feedings. Ryleigh is full of smiles! She looks just like Aunt Dana and is her little mini-me (oh my...Dana was a pistol as a kid).

Avery Lavon:

Avery loves Baby Einstein. He has also started showing interest in baseball. He likes to swing, but he seems to enjoy the rocking chair the most. He is mommy's boy! He loves to curl up on mommy! He enjoys looking at the dog on their play mat. His favorite toy is also the Taggie. Avery doesn't eat as much as Ryleigh. He eats about 5-6 oz each feeding. He has started to smile lately. His smiles will melt your heart! He is his Great-granddaddy's buddy!

Both kids are unique but loved equally! We are so blessed by them! Enjoy the slide show of their first few months!

Happy Father's Day (and Mother's Day)

For some reason I have been too busy to blog (hmmmmm probably the 2 kids I have now). I usually get to type with one hand and just can't do a whole blog that way. I never got around to doing a mother's day blog so I will combine the two.

First, I have to talk about the newest father in my life! Rando is an incredible dad to Avery and Ryleigh. Every night he stays up late to help with the last feeding. He changes diapers, makes bottles, plays, and holds the kids. It is so much fun watching him be a dad. Before Avery and Ryleigh were born he had never been around a baby - much less 2 at a time. You would never know it. The next thing I have to teach him is how to do bath time! God truly blessed me with Rando 8 years ago and he is a blessing to our kids as well!

Now I want to thank my parents for the millions of things they have done for me!

1. They have always loved unconditionally. I was not perfect (even though I like to claim I was the perfect child but we all know that is not true), but they loved me in the good and bad times!

2. They let us be kids! We never had to be the "perfect little preacher's kids". We were able to be a part of our community through school, sports, activities, and church of course.

3. They prayed for us before we were even born and never quit. They prayed for my spouse and God answered far beyond our imaginations!

4. They raised us in a wonderful church!

5. As dad preached about yesterday they were practical. Biblical principals were taught each and every day through their lives and the events of our lives.

6. My dad let me travel with him which meant more than he will ever know! I have gone all over North Georgia with him as he spoke in churches. I enjoyed that special daddy/daughter time! As I grew older and moved off he also allowed me to join him for staff lunch when I was in town.

7. My mom taught me the role of the pastor's wife. Pastor's wives do not have to be involved in every ministry the church offers (many churches expect this). Our role is to support our husband, be the constant in the home, create a loving and refreshing environment for him to come home to, pray for him, and support his ministry.

8. I'll never forget the day dad met me at softball practice with a ticket to a Braves playoff game. He had been given this ticket to go with some of the staff. He knew my love for baseball and surprised me with it. I spent the evening with some of the Hebron staff at the game while dad stayed back in Dacula! He could have given that coveted ticket to anyone, but he chose to give it to me!

9. They were at every ball game, awards ceremony, and church program possible. I always had the best dressed dad at Friday and Saturday games as he would come in his suits/tuxes before or after weddings. Mom drove all over Gwinnett and surrounding counties to get the 3 of us where we needed to be! They sacrificed so much so that we could be involved in the things we loved!

10. They are wonderful grandparents! I enjoy watching them with the kids. Mom has that special touch to calm a fussy baby and dad seems to make the kids giggle!

I am truly blessed by a wonderful husband and awesome parents! Thank you God for these blessings and so many more!

WOW! We have been so blessed by our church family, friends, and family. The meals, cards, gifts, extra hands, and especially prayers have been greatly appreciated! Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ!

Introducing Avery and Ryleigh

This post is long overdue, but as you can imagine life is pretty busy now!

On April 3, 2009 our restful Friday quickly turned into a very eventful and exciting day when Ryleigh broke her water. Rando's response was priceless when I told him. We soon headed to Emory Eastside and at 2:53 pm welcomed Ryleigh Lynn into the world. 2 minutes later we welcomed Avery Lavon. Ryleigh weighed 4 lbs 7.4 oz and was 17 1/4 in.long. Avery weighed 5 lbs 6.6 oz and was 18 3/4 in. long. The c-section went smooth and was a neat experience. I had never had any type of surgery before. Avery struggled with breathing so he was taken to the NICU. Ryleigh went on to our room with her daddy while I spent time in recovery.

As you can imagine our families were ecstatic! Ryleigh got lots of attention that first day. Later in the day Rando and both sets of grandparents got to go see Avery in the NICU. After everyone left for the evening (except for Rando) my blood pressure shot up and my kidneys began to fail. We got wheeled back to labor and delivery and I was given several medications including magnesium. The biggest problem with this was I wasn't allowed out of bed so I couldn't go see Avery. One benefit was that Rando had no choice but to change diapers so he got to change his first diaper ever when Ryleigh had a dirty and no one else was around.

Early Sunday morning I came off of my magnesium and an hour later I got to spend time with Avery. Throughout the pregnancy I tried to prepare myself for the possibility of NICU and coming home without my babies, but nothing can prepare you for what you see in the NICU. Needless to say I was a mess. God blessed me with a precious nurse that hugged on me and encouraged me. Rando was at home that night b/c we had some things left undone and my mom had to stay in the room with Ryleigh.

On Tuesday, April 7th we took Ryleigh home from the hospital. It was very difficult leaving Avery behind, but as I look back it was a blessing to have some time to get use to having 1 baby at home. We spent the next 3 days going back and forth to the hospital. My dad, grandparents, and mom took turns babysitting Ryleigh in the waiting room while we spent time with our little man.

On Friday, April 10th Avery was released from the hospital. It was so neat to finally get to hold both babies at once. I am getting emotional right now just thinking about that moment. God has truly blessed us! We drove home as a family of 4!

Life is crazy, but we wouldn't trade it for the world!

What I've learned during this pregnancy...

1. Our God knows what is best and when. If I had been told 2 years ago (when we started trying to have a baby) that I was having twins I would have cried for days. We weren't ready in many ways at that time. So many things happened this summer that made becoming pregnant and TWINS so much easier!

2. God has blessed me with the most amazing husband in the world. I already knew that, but now I am getting to see him as a daddy (even before the babies are here). Last night I came home and he had bought the book shelf I've been looking for for weeks. He also surprised me with a precious outfit for both babies! He loves putting their toys and necessities together and loves on me! I am very blessed!

3. 5 years ago I didn't understand why God told us not to move to Florida (I was ready for the beach), but now I know!!!! I am so fortunate to live 20 min. from mom and dad and then to work only 5 min. from their house! I don't know how we would have made it in Florida. Not to mention, we are now serving under the same great couple we would have been with in Florida!

4. I am blessed with incredible parents who have blessed us time and time again! I am sure dad has no idea what mom has spent (and lets keep it that way)! He has enjoyed going to Babies R Us and even picked out the gifts for one of the showers. Mom sent/brought very practical gifts to almost every shower. She is in trouble for the last one b/c I specifically told her NO more gifts! She listened to me as well as I listened to her as a teenager. I guess we've kept them waiting 8 years so they are enjoying this!

5. My sister is so patient and will make a great aunt (Adam will be a great uncle too). I know Dana had to get tired of going to showers, but she came to many of them to support me and her niece and nephew.

6. Gestational Diabetes is not as bad as I had feared. I've learned the tricks and can actually eat Chick-fil-A! Water has become my best friend b/c it washes sugar away!

7. There is no greater feeling that the kicks of my babies. This is probably the only time in my life I actually pray for them to kick me (that is how I know everything is okay). If they kick me a year from now there will be some trouble!

8. RLA and ALA (our babies) already crack me up. I sometimes just sit back and laugh as they are kicking and I believe must be playing together!

9. ALA gets tired of his sister b/c we saw him kick her during an ultrasound (and I felt it as she was kicked into my bladder).

10. We are so blessed with MANY incredible friends, family, and a 2nd to none church family! We have received everything these babies physically need through either the actual gifts or gift cards! It all started by a great shower thrown by Rando's parents and friends in NW GA and has continued daily! God has provided for our needs through wonderful people!

11. Harbins Elementary is the best school, and I'm very blessed that God placed me there! I have such a great support team around me! It is like a family and that is not found at all schools!

12. Missing Braves Opening Day is not the end of the world :o) Of course I'm not sure what I would do if I were due in the fall b/c I don't know if I could turn down GA tickets. Of course I am kidding! I am very excited about life with kids and know that our priorities and dates will be changing. Well, it is also easier knowing that mom is closeby and has offered to babysit when we get GA tickets!

13. It is actually possible to lose weight during pregnancy. If this continues we may have many more kids (Rando tells me to slow my hormones down). Seriously, I feel great and the diabetes has helped me to take better care of myself. After the initial binge of Dr. Pepper and fries (b/c my first few meals are planned out) I do think I will be more conscientious of what I eat b/c I now know that without these things I feel so good about myself.

14. The doctors that say to continue exercising even this late into pregnancy have never been pregnant. As good as I feel there is no way I could go walk the neighborhood right now!

15. This parenting thing is going to be a learn as we go thing! We are thankful God will be there to guide us and He has surrounded us with 2 wonderful sets of parents, incredible grandparents, siblings, church family, coworkers, friends, and extended family members that love, support, and pray for us!

Okay... enough of that. Maybe this is what Rando means when he says I have been a little emotional. Of course he was smart to say that it is not the crying and mood swing emotion but being sensitive, desiring to be close to him, and thought provoking emotional times.

Busy, Busy, Busy... and it is just beginning!

It has been forever since I have posted! We have been very busy. Between work, church, showers, doctors appointments, and date nights we have been on the go a lot. Things are still going good. I am 28 wks (well, I will be on Tuesday) and I feel good.

This last week I did get frustrating news when they told me I have gestational diabetes. For those of you that know me I have to be the worse person in the world to get this. I am such a picky eater and vegetables are not on my short list of likes (except the ones they won't let me have like potatoes). I am doing good so far at keeping a healthy diet and reading labels for carbs. I will be eating a lot of meat and cheese between now and the day the babies are born. My sweet husband is being so supportive and finished some cake for me so I didn't have to see it anymore (it was tough, but he did it - ha ha). I did tell him that the only gift he has to get me for giving birth to his babies is to have a Dr. Pepper beside me for as soon as these babies are born!

Every kick and roll (yes, they roll across my stomach) reminds me how worth it all of this is! I am so in love with these babies and can't wait to meet them. Rando and I have enjoyed spending time in prayer every morning before work praying for these babies, their futures, and for God to lead us as parents.

Below are some pictures from our latest adventures. It is GymDog season so we are there as much as we can be. We've been to 2 meets and are planning on going to the Florida meet (I can't wait to boo at a gymnastics meet b/c they are always so friendly, but I hear you get to boo when Florida does their chomp on the floor routine). Yes, I know I am such a good sport - ha ha! We have also had several showers. We are so blessed with great family and friends.

Merry Christmas

We want to wish all of our friends and family a Merry Christmas! This is a special time of year filled with joy, memories, family time, and rest! We are very grateful for all that Christ has done for us this last year (and for the last 29 yrs). As I sat waiting for the Christmas Eve service to begin tonight I couldn't help but think how much our lives have changed since I sat in that same section 1 year ago. This year we both accepted new jobs. Fortunately I am the only one that relocated. Rando just changed positions at Hebron. God knew exactly what we needed and when we needed it.

We have learned so much about God's timing this year. All in a span of 2 wks Rando accepted the position as College Pastor, I started at Harbins, we paid off Rando's truck, and we learned we were having a baby (later to learn we were actually having 2 babies). For several years I thought it was the perfect time to start a family, but God had much greater plans! We have been blessed with 7 1/2 years together as a couple and are now ready for our baby boy and baby girl! Our God is perfect in every way and His plan is always perfect!

We have been to the doctor twice in the last 2 wks. The first was an appt. with a specialist. They measured the babies and we got to see them on the screen for about 40 min. Both babies were abt. 12 oz (Rando says I am carrying 2 coke cans) and growing at the right pace. Yesterday we went to my actual doctor's office. The doctor we saw yesterday is actually the one that delivered Adam and saved his and mom's life! He was extremely nice and made my day when he said I wouldn't have to go back to the specialist because everything was looking so good! Their heartbeats were great! We go back on Jan. 20th for another ultrasound and sugar test (can't wait... ha ha). It is crazy to think that we could be just 3 1/2 mths from the arrival of our precious babies!

Last Thursday night we had a very special evening! First, I got off of work early and was able to shop a little with my sister. I didn't find too many Christmas presents, but it was still nice to hang out with Dana. We then met dad and Rando and drove to mom's school. We all piled into the van and headed to Alpharetta. There was much anticipation on what gender the babies would be. Of course none of us had specific preferences we just all wanted healthy and growing babies! Dana had some interesting choices for names picked out (none of which will be used)!

The 3D/4D experience was amazing. It was so cool to see our babies moving and interacting with one another. First, we found out there was definitely 1 boy. He was precious and not modest at all! He was quite proud of himself (you can imagine the comments dad and Rando had). It took a while to decide what the other babies gender was, and we never got a declaration. The technician was almost certain we also have a girl. She was a little more modest and used her cord to "hide" herself (we love her modesty and pray she stays that way through life). We should know soon.

They already have personalities! Our little boy was laid back and trying to relax. His sister had other ideas. She kept trying to get his attention and even looked to be "whispering" in his ear. He spent some time in "prayer" with his hands clasped together and tried his best to ignore his "pesky" sister. The whole time they were being videoed music was playing. We had all ignored the music, but all of our ears perked up when Jesus Loves Me came on. Jesus already loves these precious little babies and has since time began. God is forming and making them in His likeness! It is simply amazing! We cannot wait to meet our bundles of joy! I count down the days to each appointment because I get to see them again! God is so good!

14 weeks!

Wow! Time flies by! It seems like yesterday that we learned we were pregnant and then that we were having twins! Today we got to see our precious babies again. One of my students asked if I was going to the doctor to let the babies out today. We have a LONG time until that comes. Both babies are very healthy with strong heart beats. We are hoping to do a 3D ultrasound in a few weeks and if we time it right we should be able to learn the gender(s).

This last week mom and I went to look at baby beds. We got such a good deal that we got the whole bedroom set. I can already tell these babies are going to be spoiled, and I am going to be broke! I am hoping to clean out the baby room and prepare it for furniture over the holidays. That is going to be a BIG task!

For those that have been asking, I am getting a belly. I have been showing a while but unless I wear my maternity jeans (I can't wear any other jeans) others can't tell b/c I am only comfortable in looser pants. I have to say that so far pregnancy has done me some good in the weight matter. I have actually lost weight since my first appt., but I know that is not going to last. For a while there I was throwing up a couple times a day, but now it is down to maybe once a week so I know those numbers will be rising (but I have a good excuse now).

I now have a lot of my energy back and feel pretty good. I don't feel like I am a terrible teacher anymore b/c for a few weeks there I had very little energy and could not devote near the time I need to on my students. My kids are too cute! I have the best class in the world this year (sorry if I had your child in the past, but I am learning that 1st grade is wonderful). One kid told me today that he can't wait to meet my babies b/c they are going to be so cute! Another kid asks me if I am okay every time I cough or sneeze. I am in good hands at school!

Rando has been a king! He is so good to me and these babies! I am so blessed! My dad is cracking me up. He has never been an overprotective dad, but now he is! We both have such wonderful families!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is less than a month away and Christmas 2 months. Time is flying by! Take some time to spend with your family this weekend and I can't forget to say, "GO DAWGS!!!!!"

Oh my! We have had an exciting day! As tired as I have been I can't imagine trying to go to sleep right now. While at our 1st ultrasound I asked, "It is only one?" Kind of surprised because I have thought for weeks and honestly most of my life that I was having / would have twins. The nurse said, "No, actually there are two." Of course then Rando wanted to have clarification that there were only two. We just sat there and laughed because we were so thrilled and shocked and a million other emotions. I can honestly say I wasn't scared at all (well except for when I thought about delivery and I still can't stomach that). We are so thankful we serve an awesome God that does not give more than we can handle!

These last few weeks I haven't been able to update because when I have gotten home I have not been very mobile. I have been exhausted (and now understand why). I have also been sick a good bit. I hope that part is coming to an end soon!

Our families were thrilled. Rando's mom didn't believe us so we had to send a picture to her through the phone. She was excited when she got to see the picture!My dad's face in the pictures below are hysterical! Adam was fun to listen to on the phone, and Dana proclaimed to all that she knew it because she was with me when I tried on maternity clothes the first time and no girl this early is showing that much without there being 2. Mom is excited and said she kind of knew but didn't want to get my hopes up. My grandparents were shocked! My grandmother in Florida couldn't stop laughing. She has a twin brother and my granddad had a twin sister. This is why it wasn't a surprise. Of course it was suppose to be my mom that had the twins, but I am glad we are getting this extra joy!

7 Weeks

Well, as of today I am 7 weeks! I have enjoyed getting email updates from BabyCenter.com regarding the growth of the baby. God's creation is absolutely incredible and to be a part of it is simply amazing! This week the baby is forming hands and feet. In one week the baby has doubled in size and is now about a half of an inch long.

Thank you so much for all of your prayers. So far the sickness has been at a minimum. I feel the worst in the evening and have only gotten truly sick 1 time. Rando is still treating me like royalty! I am truly blessed. He has always been a prince, but he has really gone above and beyond lately!

This last weekend we spent some time with our friends Mark, Christi, and 1 year old Natalie. It was fun to play with Natalie knowing that it won't be long until we have a little one running around. She helped us see the things we need to do to baby proof the house because she is at the age where they get into everything! We had a great time playing Rock Band, Guitar Hero (Mark and Christi, thanks for letting us borrow the Wii until we get ours), and watched the Georgia game!

Yes, it's true: We are expecting!!!!!

We have been greatly anticipating today when we could tell everyone our big news! God is so faithful and never ceases to amaze me. When we started trying 2 years ago I knew that it would be God's timing and not mine and boy am I glad! So many things have fallen into place the last month and it has been exciting to sit back and watch God at work! I can't get over the fact that He is over the entire universe and yet He still cares about the details in our lives (like jobs, pay, truck payments, ect). And then on top of all of that He knows when we are ready for children!

Our parents are thrilled! Rando's parents found out Friday night and have been busting to be able to tell family and friends. We told my family today while at Maggianos for Rando, Dana, and Adam's birthdays. For those of you who were at Hebron this morning, after this news dad didn't push for us to pay anymore (like he would have anyways). We couldn't get him off the phone tonight as he had to call everyone! Rando and I also enjoyed calling friends tonight to share the good news. We weren't able to get to everyone, but it was nice to share the excitement with those we could get in touch with.

Dana and Adam are excited about being an aunt and uncle. They loved their bibs that say, "I love my Aunt Dana" and "I love my Uncle Adam". Hopefully I'll get the pictures up soon as they both wore their bibs for a picture!

Well, our due date is April 27th. I am looking forward to getting to spend a long summer with the baby (of course several people are convinced it will be babies)! We greatly appreciate the prayers of all our friends and family This is very new to us and we have no experience! Fortunately we have a BIG God that we know will lead and direct us!

Everythings New for Us!

As you can tell I haven't posted our vacation pictures or fun stories on here yet. Yes, we had a blast, but of course when we came home life got rolling fast. I thought I would be the only one starting a new job when we got back, but Rando has also started a new job. No, he did not leave Hebron! He is now the College and Twenty-somethings Pastor. It has been a whirlwind these last few weeks as he is diving into his new job and I have been trying to support him while starting at my new school in a new grade level! The only thing consistent for us is that we are still never home at night. The best thing about me working at Harbins is that we do see each other a lot!

Hopefully soon I'll have a chance to update further, but I didn't want anyone to think I had quit blogging totally! I just have to let school and life settle down first!

Summer is all about family, friends, and rest!

As we prepare for the last adventure of summer I can't help but think about all the fun we have had the last several weeks! As you will see below we have been very busy! In between all of this fun Rando has worked and I have gone through a class and taught a week of summer school. I love summer and am so thankful for a job where I have 2 months to spend tons of time with my incredible husband, awesome family, and fun friends. Below are some of the highlights!

Braves

Thanks to some very gracious church members we had tickets to several Braves games recently. We reunited with a great college friend, Ryan Brooks, for one game (Dana and Adam went too). Of course we lost that game, but we saw the Tomahawk chopping cow revealed and saw some great fireworks. We had a hilarious time laughing and joking in the car! Ryan fit right in with our family! A few days later me and Rando took a date just the 2 of us and enjoyed a game. We always have such a good time together!

Swimming with the Family

One evening a few weeks ago we enjoyed a night by the pool at mom and dad's house. We even got my grandparents to come over and sit on the deck while we swam. This was in between hospital stays for my grandfather (God has shown His perfect timing as granddaddy is now well and ready to go on vacation with us). We enjoyed laughing at Adam, Rando, and Rylan (Adam's best friend). We are all so grateful dad gave in to our years of begging for a pool. It makes summer days relaxing and summer nights fun for the whole family!

Wedding

The weekend of June 29th Rando officiated a wedding while I directed it. The bride is one of our best friend's sister. We enjoyed getting to know Matt and Katie better through the whole process. It was a beautiful wedding! We enjoyed getting to spend time with Mark, Christi (Katie's sister), and Natalie too! The pictures in the slideshow of us in the woods are from the rehearsal.

30 Years at Hebron

The same day as Matt and Katie's wedding we celebrated Dad and Mom's 30th anniversary of being at Hebron. It was a beautiful night! I was grateful for the opportunity to share how special my parents are to our family and how special Hebron is to us! I am so blessed to have been raised in a church that loves the Lord, each other, the community, their pastor, and his family. Thank you Hebron family for being a HUGE part of our lives! I also have to add that I enjoyed going back to my parents' house afterwards and laughing at all the funny pictures the church had gathered. WOW! The hairdos my parents sported in the early Hebron days were too funny. Of course Dana and Adam pointed out that I had my share of hairdos too. We had a great night laughing and reminiscing. I love my family and always have fun when we are together!

I am also VERY grateful that we are now serving at Hebron. To see my husband so happy on a daily basis as he is ministering and serving at such an awesome place brings me so much joy! We honestly couldn't be in a better place!

Although we do not all still live in Rome we make sure to get together several times throughout the year. Usually we meet for game nights, but this time we changed it up some. On July 3rd, we met up at Stone Mountain for a picnic, the LaserShow, patriotic fireworks, and LOTS of fun! We even saw part of the mountain catch on fire and the firemen hard at work putting it out! We had a great time laughing and enjoying each others company. Now that half of us live in the Walton/Rockdale area and the other half live in Rome we have many stories to share! We never spend time together without laughing and enjoying ourselves!

July 4th

We had a lazy Independence Day. We went to mom and dad's house (they were already in Miami) and spent the day with Dana, Adam, and Rylan. We swam, enjoyed a great dinner by Dana (tacos - not the most patriotic meal but loved by the boys (I ate a hamburger)), watched the boys play Tiger Woods for HOURS (at least it seemed), and then laughed as the guys displayed some fireworks. In true Dana fashion she surprised us by setting up the karaoke machine with a patriotic cd. The only problem from the night was when Adam burnt his hand with one of the fireworks. It was a fun evening with several stories that we will have to keep from mom and dad if we ever want to shoot fireworks again! Shhh.... don't tell them :o)

Dropping off Noodle

This last Sunday we took Noodle to her mamaw and papaw's house. We enjoyed spending several hours with them. It was hard to say goodbye to our little girl. We won't see her for over 2 weeks, but we know she is in good hands and having lots of fun. We then enjoyed a great meal with Rando's parents. We are looking forward to going back up there in a few weeks to pick Noodle up and to spend more time with them. On the way home the 2 of us had some great discussion of our dreams and goals for the future! I love our time driving down the road just the 2 of us! We truly are best friends!

Vacation

Now, it is time to pack for vacation! We will be meeting up with mom and dad on the cruise ship this Saturday. They have been cruising for a week already. All 8 (mom, dad, Dana, Adam, Granny, Granddaddy, Rando, and myself) of us are ready for this time together. I am sure the next post will be full of fun stories and pictures!

Summer Fun and Holidays

I have to begin by saying how much I am enjoying summer! This break has been so nice! We have had a fun summer so far. A few weeks ago our friends from Rome came down so that the guys could play in the Hebron golf tournament. They had a lot of fun and us girls enjoyed relaxing and playing with baby Jacob. We missed Christi though as she had to work! After the guys finished playing golf we all took naps and then Rando grilled for us. Mark brought Natalie over so we had another little one to play with (we are fortunate to have them live only 15 min. away now). Notice in the picture below what Natalie's favorite toy was - NOODLE!

June is full of holidays for our family! On June 2nd we celebrated being married for 7 years! It is so hard to believe that it has already been 7 years. The best thing is that we love each other more each day! We are amazed at where God has brought us in our lives. We truly are blessed. For our anniversary we took advantage of the free dessert coupons that Dominicks sent us. If you live in Gwinnett and you haven't been to Dominicks you need to go. There is one on the square in Lawrenceville and one in downtown Norcross. We enjoyed a nice quiet Italian dinner. We got out of there fast so we went to play putt-putt (a favorite summer activity for us). I actually won. Rando says I must play better in the dark b/c the place forgot to turn on the lights. Here we are on our anniversary date.

After our anniversary comes the birthdays. Dad's is June 6th and mine is the 8th. On Friday night we went to Bugaboo Creek to celebrate mine and dad's birthdays. Below is a picture of me with the lovely moose that sang to us. I wish I had the picture of dad with the moose, but Rando refused to take a picture of that b/c he said dad was his boss and he liked his job :o). Dana has one though if you want to see it. She is the child that can get away with that stuff!

Sunday after church just the two of us celebrated my birthday. First, Rando showered me with gifts. He really spoils me! After our Sunday afternoon nap (Rando knows that even birthday celebrations can't interrupt my Sun. nap) Rando surprised me by taking me to the Cheesecake Factory. I had just gotten done telling his mom on the phone that I wasn't much into birthday cake. It really isn't something we have done in my family since we became teenagers and adults (I have learned that I have accidentally broken the Acres' tradition on that one b/c we don't do cake for Rando's birthday either - of course I am sure we will for our kids one day), but the Cheesecake Factory was the perfect birthday cake. They even decorated my piece (of course they don't give it to you free for your birthday though). We had a great time, and I loved my surprise!

This last week we were BUSY with Vacation Bible Camp (VBS combined with Children's Camp). We worked in recreation. The inflatables were a HUGE hit. Of course we had about as much fun as the kids did on the stuff. You should have seen Rando doing the big space shuttle. We had a great week as over 2700 kids came at one point or another to VBC. There were a lot of decisions for Christ made! God moved in an incredible way! We are so blessed to be a part of a great church that LOVES to reach out to the community! Summer has arrived!

Yes, I know that summer is not official until the middle of June, but as a teacher summer starts the day I get out of school!!! This last Friday I said goodbye to some great friends at work and cried a few tears. There are a few people I am going to miss dearly, but I am very excited about my new adventures as a first grade teacher at Harbins! The last few days at work I spent a lot of time with two of my best friends, Chrissy and Connie. We shared many laughs, and I know our dinners out will not stop!

One of the saddest things was leaving my parapro, Claudia. We have worked together for all 4 years that I was at Magill and we truly were a team! I am grateful for our friendship! Here is a picture of us during the last week of school!

Now that summer is here I am looking forward to spending more time with Rando! The last few weeks have been very busy for both of us as I have been packing up a classroom and he has had basketball tournaments. I am also looking forward to time by the pool at mom and dad's. I decided this year to not do the tanning bed to save money and my skin. I need a tan and am excited about getting started on it as early as tomorrow!

I am also looking forward to more Braves games. This is always our favorite part of the summer. Last Friday we saw an incredible game (even though we froze) and we are looking forward to the next!

Spring Training at Disney

WOW! 2 weeks ago we had the time of our life spending time together sharing in a mutual love for baseball! For the last few years we have both talked about wanting to go to Braves Spring Training and we decided this was the year to do it! God blessed us with great fellowship together, incredible baseball, fun at the parks, and beautiful weather. In 5 days we went to 4 Disney Parks, 3 Braves games, 1 evening at Disney Quest, met all of our favorite Braves, and most of all enjoyed spending time with each other! The parks were so empty that we got in all 4 of the parks and Disney Quest in 3 days saving 2 days on our tickets for the future (the plus of purchasing not expiring tickets)! I can't believe I haven't mentioned eating like royalty for 5 days! The Disney dining plan kept us full.

As you will see below in the slideshow we not only saw Braves' stars, but also NBA, NFL, and ESPN stars while at ESPN The Weekend at MGM. Jeff Francoeur and Tim Hudson got on Tower of Terror right in front of us (that will explain the picture of the elevator in the slideshow). We had so much fun we plan on doing a shorter and less expensive Spring Training trip every year that we can!

I cannot say enough how blessed I am to have a wonderful husband. God knew the exact one for me! The fact that we share a love for sports is just icing on the cake!

Change can be good!

It has been so long since I have posted. Life does not seem to slow down! Since before Christmas I have known God was paving the way for some changes in my career. At the beginning of the year I thought I would be at Magill for this year and next. After a rough first month of school I realized that may not be the case. We lost 4 kindergarten teachers due to not having enough students and if we had lost 5 I would have been gone (to another school). I did not want to this happen in the future and now I was at the bottom of the totem pole (even though I am grade chair and a leader in many areas of the school). Every thing is based on years of experience in the county compared to the others on the grade level.

After eating dinner with 3 great friends in December on the way home I just knew God was calling me to transfer. I had not told them at dinner, but I realized that the reason I was being hesitant towards transferring was these friendships. After Christmas I shared with my principal and she was 100% behind me. She was so kind and encouraged me as a leader and in future leadership endeavors. On Feb. 15th I put in for a transfer to a Dacula area school (Dacula, Harbins, Alcova, or Mulberry). Just this last week I got an interview at Harbins and was VERY impressed by Dr. Truett and the school.

All this to say.. I am going to be a Harbins Hawk! I am extremely excited about coming "back home" to the Dacula area. Harbins has the old town Dacula feel and the community is wonderful! God has truly blessed me with this opportunity.

The funny thing is the thing that was once holding me back is now an ironic situation. Out of my 5 closest friends at work none of us will be at Magill next year. We will all be somewhere different.

The hardest thing is leaving my parapro. She is wonderful and she will never be replaced! We have become very close friends! I am excited for her as she will be going to Rosebud Elementary (the new school Magill is losing staff and students to).

God is so good to us, and He has been faithful in showing me His will!

Holiday Wrap-up

It seems like this wonderful Christmas season flew by. I feel like I just got our Christmas decorations up and now I have to take them down. This was the most relaxing and enjoyable break in a long time! It was so nice to spend so much time as a couple!

Christmas Eve we worshiped with our church family as we reflected on what Christmas is all about. We then enjoyed Long Horn with my family. That night we opened stockings and Noodle loved her new treats that she found in her stocking. Christmas morning we got up and did our gifts sitting by my favorite Christmas tree. We later went to my parents for the annual gifts, Christmas game (Let's Make a Deal was this years game), breakfast, lunch, and fun! The favorite gift of the day was the HUGE alarm clock we gave Adam so that he will wake up when his alarm goes off. Of course this was the favorite gift for everyone else b/c I am not so sure how much Adam actually liked it. Later that afternoon we drove to Rock Springs to spend a few days with Rando's parents. Rando enjoyed learning about his new rifle and going to the range to shoot it. I enjoyed relaxing and having little to no responsibilities!

Saturday our great friends Mark and Christi came to spend the night and go to church with us on Sunday. We got to see their 9 month old, Natalie, all grown up (last time we saw her she was 2 weeks old). She is a precious baby, but I must say it was very eye opening to us as we realized how big of a commitment children are. I think after the weekend we both agreed that as much as we love Natalie and the other babies in our lives we are still okay that it is just us in our family. Of course there is always Noodle too :o). Noodle wasn't too sure of the baby. She was very patient with Natalie and became more comfortable as the weekend went on.

This New Years was the first since 1999/2000 that we spent the evening just the 2 of us! We usually get together with all of our friends from Rome, but this year we have scheduled that for February. We enjoyed a wonderful evening of just spending time together playing GameCube and Rummicube.

As 2008 begins, we are ready for all that this year will bring. 2007 was such a wonderful year for us, but we are ready for what God has ahead of us! Along with the usual get fit resolutions, it is my goal to not work as much and find ways to spend more time with Rando.

Is it really December?

Oh my! I can't believe it has been over 2 months since I posted. Life has absolutely been crazy. We went straight from having softball about 2 nights a week to having Christmas parties and other seasonal activities several nights a week. Hopefully after New Years things will settle down. I have to run cook (I don't get to do that too often anymore), but I wanted to post our Christmas letter (one of the drafts anyways) for those of you we do not have addresses for. I usually do a letter b/c we have so many family members that we do not see and they are always asking what has been going on in our lives. We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

Letter:

Dear family and friends,
It is hard to believe Christmas is already upon us! This year has flown by. God has been so good and has blessed us in so many ways this year – as always! This year started off as a hectic one. Rando was in the process of interviewing and waiting for background checks, and I was working diligently on my Masters. Last Christmas was so busy that we were unable to send out Christmas cards much less letters.
In mid-January we were thrilled that Rando had been offered a job at Hebron as Associate Pastor of Recreation. This brought a mixture of feelings. We love our students at Walker and miss seeing them weekly, but Hebron is family to us! I am blessed to be able to worship and sit with my grandparents, sister, and my best friend and her family every Sunday morning. Many lifelong friendships have been rekindled! This has truly been a blessing!
Rando loves his job! He enjoys working with a variety of people in the church and community. He also loves the friendships and working relationships he has with the pastors and staff. It is truly a fun and rewarding place to serve! Of course with Rando being a recreation pastor we have gotten ourselves involved in the leagues. Rando played in the men’s softball league while I played in the women’s. We will not discuss how those seasons went, but by the time we got to coed softball we were back in shape (well, kind of)! Rando also just wrapped up playing flag football. He stays busy organizing adult softball and basketball leagues while assisting with the youth leagues. It has been enjoyable for both of us as we get to serve our Lord through one of our passions – sports!
Again this year we enjoyed many sporting events. We ended last year by splurging at the last second (40 min. before game time) on Chick-fil-A Bowl tickets! What a night! We had fun cheering on the Gym Dawgs for Valentine’s Day. We enjoyed learning more about hockey at Thrashers’ games, and of course we spent many spring and summer nights at Turner Field. This fall we have enjoyed Bulldog Football. Rando got to go to Vanderbilt and THE Georgia/FLORIDA GAME! Yes, I am a little jealous, but he deserves it. Not to mention one of us has to stay home and work. Chip (Rando’s boss and good friend) was so nice to take us both to the UGA/W. Carolina Game. We had a great time and even got to visit Adam’s dorm. For Thanksgiving, Rando took his parents and Aunt Debbie to the Falcons/Colts game – or should we just say the Colts game! They had a great time!
This summer was exciting for many reasons! Rando spoke at the college/career retreat in Ft. Walton, and we were able to spend time with some incredible young adults. While we were there we visited with our great friend from college, Josh Vess. A few weeks later I finished my Masters! What a relief! We then spent a relaxing week in the mountains at a beautiful cabin known as The Blessing! The name says it all! We are so grateful for our friends who opened this home to us for much needed refreshment!
Our family is doing great! Noodle, our 4 legged baby, is as sweet as ever. She even loves sporting her UGA jersey and her flashy red toe nails (thanks to our new groomer)! Rando’s parents are serving on staff at Oakwood, Rando’s home church, and they continue to see lives changed. They stay busy leading ministries at the main campus and several satellite campuses! My parents are busy serving at Hebron as God continues to amaze us! Just the other week we saw over 10,000 people come onto the HBC campus over a 3 night period for a wonderful family event – Christmas on the Corner (the live nativity and marshmallow roasting were our favorites)! This year dad rode his bicycle to Jacksonville, Fl for the UGA game, and mom has been busy as an Assistant Principal at Riverside Elementary. Dana graduated college in May and is spending this Christmas season helping make sure boys and girls across Gwinnett County have a wonderful Christmas. God is using her mightily! Adam is a sophomore at UGA and is serving on the BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministries) leadership team. He also loves cheering on the DAWGS! Our grandparents are also doing well. I was blessed to get to see my grandmother in Florida for Thanksgiving and her birthday. We are so grateful for such godly families who love and encourage us daily!
This coming year promises to be a busy one! Please be in prayer for Rando as he prepares to travel to China in April! We love you all and are so grateful for your friendship and prayers! You have all touched our lives in a special way! We hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Busy!

Well, as you can see we have been very busy! Rando has been busy working and playing ball. I have been busy with school work, my ESOL endorsement class, and playing ball. We are enjoying playing coed softball together! At least we are together at the ball fields instead of having games on different nights and only passing each other.

Our weekends are full with watching or attending GA games, cleaning house, family things, or date nights! In September we went to the UGA / Western Carolina game. Chip (Rando's boss and friend) gave us the tickets! We had a great time hanging out with Chip and then getting to go to Adam's dorm afterwards! Last weekend, Rando and Chip made the drive to Nashville to see UGA take on Vanderbilt.

Update on things at school:
Things are finally settling down. My new students have adjusted well and are in the swing of things. After a scare that she was going to be teaching at another school, my friend Chrissy got a job in 3rd grade at our school (replacing a teacher that left). I know the teachers that have been displaced and in transition appreciate the prayers and support of the county. Most everyone is finally getting settled into the new jobs and making the best of things for the remainder of the year.

Well, hopefully it will not be as long between posts. It took a friend reminding me how long it had been since the last post.

WOW! It is hard to believe that it has been 3 weeks since I last posted. So much has gone on since then.

First, we celebrated Rando's birthday. Somehow he always manages to get a whole weekends worth of celebrations (but he deserves it)! On Thursday, the 30th, the two of us enjoyed a quiet dinner at Texas Roadhouse. On Friday night, we enjoyed a Braves game with his parents. We had a lot of fun. It was his parents first trip to Turner Field! His parents were able to spend the night. Mrs. Acres spoiled us with a cake and all!

Saturday, Rando went to lunch with his parents and then we watched the first UGA game at the house and relaxed. Sunday, we went to Fogo de Choi with my family to celebrate Dana, Adam, and Rando's birthdays. We ate enough for a week. We also saw Yunel Escobar and Brayan Pena (pictured below). The valet parking guys said that Edgar Renteria was also in the restaurant. We have learned the Braves love to eat meat because three years ago when we went we saw Julio Franco.

Labor Day, I enjoyed one last hot day in the pool and then we cooked out with my family.

The last week and a half have been a roller coaster ride. First, I was honored as a finalist for teacher of the year which was a BIG surprise (our wonderful Media Specialist won). Then, we learned we were losing 4 kindergarten teachers and 4 kindergarten parapros (along with 6 other staff members). First, it looked like it wouldn't be me. Then, it looked like it was possibly going to be me. Finally, I learned that I was safe by only 13 - 15 days. My interview date was May 14th and one of the other teachers interviewed the end of May. It is so hard to see our friends have to pack up and leave. Two of my closest friends, Leila and Chrissy both had to leave kindergarten at Magill. Leila has to go to a new school. Chrissy will be able to stay at our school in another position, but it is said to be temporary. I am praying that Chrissy will be able to stay. She is my biggest encourager at school, and we do so much together! I know watching the news it does not seem like it is a big deal, but when you watch your friends hurt and have to wonder what is going to happen next it is a big deal.

This coming week will be hard as we transition. I will get new students on Thursday. Please be praying for all of the Gwinnett County teachers affected by the under projection. Even though all were promised jobs many are not working in positions they feel comfortable in. Some teachers will now be working in schools across the county and away from their own children. There are also a lot of students who are having to move to new classes. This can be scary for many of them - especially our young kindergarten students.

2 Crazy Weeks

Well, I am now 2 weeks into the school year, and I am exhausted! I have enjoyed getting to know my students and their families. I only have 14 at this point so it has been nice to be able to give more attention to each child. My prayer for this year is that I will allow Jesus to show Himself through my life to my students, their parents, and my coworkers.

This year I am in several leadership positions at work. God has blessed me with these opportunities as it is my longterm goal to be in administration. I have faced some very stressful situations, but God has been there with me guiding me and molding me to be more like Him through it all! I have learned so much in the last 3 weeks. I have learned more about totally depending on God and seeking His word. I have also learned a lot about leadership - including the downsides!

This coming week will be an exciting one for us. Rando turns 28 this week! The end of the week will be full of birthday celebrations. We will go to dinner just the two of us. Go to the Braves game on Friday night. Of course on Saturday we will be watching the GA game. Sunday we will be celebrating Rando, Dana, and Adam's birthdays with my family. As you can see, this will not be a good week for dieting!

We are so grateful for wonderful friends and family. We pray that you are able to get rest and refreshment this weekend!

Back to School

Well, as I type I am realizing that I cannot stop what tomorrow will bring! First thing in the morning I will have crying 4, 5, and 30 year olds at my classroom door. It is always an exciting and exhausting day! For those of you who know how bad my first day was last year I know that it can only be better this year! I am excited about this group of students! God has entrusted me with these students. I pray that I will have an impact on their lives!

This last week was extremely busy. Rando and I barely saw each other in passing many nights. Between softball games and me working late it was crazy. We were blessed to be able to enjoy Thursday evening together at the Hebron community movie. Friday night we relaxed and then Saturday we enjoyed some time with my friends from work Leila and Chrissy (and Leila's husband Andy). I was excited that I actually branched out and tried some new foods. Here is a picture of me and my friend Chrissy! I am extremely excited about teaching next door to her this year. We have a lot in common and whenever I need to escape the pressures and get a good laugh I know I can go to her room.

Last weeks of summer

Well, Rando has already started his annual song of "summer is over". Needless to say this always makes me ill! I love my job, but I love the time at home and extra time with him. He has also enjoyed reminding me that starting this coming Friday he will be the one kicking me out of the bed as he gets to sleep late!

I have tried to make the most out of these last 2 weeks of summer. I have had several softball games (we finally won a game - woo hoo). I have also worked a lot in my classroom. It is coming along, but there is so much still to do. I am in a new classroom which I am very happy about, but it takes extra work to move and reset everything up.

Below are some pictures from the highlights of my last 2 weeks!

I enjoyed lunch last Saturday with a dear high school friend Kelly. When we get together it is like we have never skipped a beat. I loved hearing about her little boy and how great her family is doing.

Last Wednesday I went to the Braves game with some friends from work. We had a great time laughing and watching some baseball. Of course the funniest part of the night was our shirtless Indian friend (he was drunk and creepy)! We also almost witnessed a fight right in front of us. It was a little scary. I did finally see the Braves win a game after going to 5 or so games where they lost.

Thursday night it was back to the Braves game for me. Dana, the Cohoon girls, and I rode down to Atlanta to make sure we got the free Brian McCann shirts. Rando and Byron joined us later! We had a great time! It is so fun to hang out with my husband, sister, and great friends. Brittany and Byron have become our double date partners! I have known Brittany since she moved to Georgia about 13 years ago, and we are good friends with Byron from our time in Monroe. Finally, yesterday I spent the day laying in the pool trying to get some sun (oops - I got a little too much). Mom, Dana, and I swam and laughed for hours. Somehow we convinced dad to go get some meat to grill so we could swim more and not have to get dried and dressed to go out to eat. Rando came over and all 6 of us enjoyed hamburgers and all the fixings (well, Rando and dad were hoping for Campton, but we girls and Adam enjoyed the burgers).

I cannot delay the inevitable anymore. It is so hard to believe that it is time to go back. Where did the summer go?

A Wonderful Vacation!

We just got back from the most relaxing and refreshing vacation! The most relaxing part for me was knowing I did not have to come home and write a paper, watch videos, or take a quiz! Here is a picture of my portfolio right before I put it in the mail! Now I am looking forward to the paycheck (of course it will go straight to paying off my loan)!

We began our vacation with 2 nights at Rando's parents. We enjoyed a Chattanooga Lookouts game with them on Friday night! We had a great time fellowshipping with his parents and watched a good ball game!

On Saturday, we said goodbye to his parents and our little girl, Noodle. We know she had a great time with her grandparents and Uncle Gizmo!

While in Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge we did as much and as little as we wanted! It was nice to be able to sleep in and stay up late! Last year we went on a cruise and had a blast while staying busy visiting all the islands. This year we took it slower and enjoyed a simpler vacation!

We enjoyed many good dinners at places such as Calhouns, Damons, Hard Rock, and Corkys. We also cooked hamburgers at the cabin one night and had a hot dog picnic one afternoon. Here are some pictures from our dinners out!

A major part of the refreshment came from enjoying God's beautiful creation! We did not even have to leave the cabin for a beautiful view of the mountains.

On our way back from our picnic we saw a bunch of cars pulled off the road. There was a cub playing on the embankment. Of course we know mom had to be close by but we never saw her (I was okay with that too). A few nights later we saw another bear about 50 yards from the cabin. The neighbors said that a mom and her cubs were in between our cabins while we were gone.

In Cades Cove we saw a wild turkey, 2 bears, and a hundred or so deer. The does have quite a few bucks to pick from this year because we saw way more bucks than does!

One evening, I was talking to my sister on the phone when I saw this raccoon walk across the deck. I would love to say that I kept my cool, but Rando would correct me! I was a little nervous (okay a lot nervous). I just could see him trying to get in the cabin. I learned that he was more afraid of me. He finally found his way back into the woods, but not before I snapped this picture through the window.

Many nights we stayed up LATE playing games (Phase 10, pool, and Rummikub), watching movies, and T.V. Rando read a lot. In fact he read a whole book (it would take me months to complete it). We are both night owls so we would stay up late and sleep in! Here is a picture of us in front of the fire place. The cabin is wonderful because there is plenty to do there at the cabin or you can ride into town for tourist attractions.

We also had a lot of fun playing putt putt! We played 3 games during the week. My 18 year old brother asked me, "Are y'all up there to try out all the putt putt courses?" He will understand when he is old like us! We had a great time during our friendly competitions. I finally beat Rando for the first time when we played Hillbilly Golf (which is an adventure). Rando beat me the two times we played Fire House Golf.

We also did a lot of shopping. We were good to mostly just window shop, but I was able to get my Christmas shopping started. Another thing we enjoyed was going to WonderWorks. It is an interactive exhibit hall with a variety of things to do. I pitched to Derek Jeter, we completed trivia quizzes, we played basketball in the NBA, landed space shuttles, experienced a "hurricane" and an "earthquake", and many other computerized attractions. It would have been better if all of the exhibits worked, but we enjoyed ourselves anyways! Here we are right before the earthquake!

This vacation reminded us that the simple life is wonderful! God has given us so much to be thankful for! We had a great time enjoying God's beautiful creation and spending time together! The cabin is called "The Blessing" and it truly was! The whole vacation was a blessing from God! I can't wait until our next getaway!

Well, now it is back to real life. Rando returns to work, I am preparing for school to start back, and we have house cleaning and yard work to do! If only we could just stay on vacation! Of course, God has blessed both of us with jobs that we love and being at home is nice too! It was nice to worship at Hebron today with our church family!

4th of July Week

Other than the holiday, this was a pretty uneventful week. Every spare second I had I was working on my portfolio. Tonight I wrote the VERY last paper I will have to write for this degree program. Before mailing the portfolio off I just have to scan my work samples, add some pictures, create a cover page, and burn to a disk! I cannot wait to go to the post office on Thursday!

Rando had a busy week at the office as he geared up for adult softball. We are both playing which should be interesting because it has been a while since either of us have played ball. Personally speaking, I feel like I am getting too old! After the practices I have been sore!

We had a great time on the 4th. We went to mom and dad's for a little while to swim and cookout. Then the Wynn crew loaded up and went to Gratis. Gratis is in the county we live in and until Wed. I had never been there (Rando knew his way around though - all 2 roads). We sat around, laughed, ate boiled peanuts (well me, dad, and Dana did), and eventually watched the fireworks - from the back of dad's truck I must add. Yes, it felt a little redneckish, but it was a lot of fun! We were very grateful that God gave us a perfect day to spend together as a family (not too hot, but not too cool).

Zoo and Wedding

WOW! Last week was a busy week! During the days Rando worked (he had to catch up from being gone a week) and I cleaned house, worked in my classroom, and met with my friend who is also completing her portfolio for our Masters. The evenings were full of outdoor activities. 2 nights we pulled weeds in our newly sodded backyard. I was so sore after 2 nights of that! Our backyard is starting to look so good though! I will have to take a picture in the next few weeks! On Thurs. night Rando had a meeting at the church, and I had softball practice (at the church). I realized how old I am getting because I could barely move Friday morning and even worse Friday night! I am looking forward to playing though.

Friday, we had a wonderful day at Zoo Atlanta. Rando had never been and I have only been a few times. Before I went at the beginning of the summer with Crystal (Rowe) Casey and her little Hannah, it had been years since I had been. We had a great time and will go back in the future! Below are a few pictures from the zoo.

Rando thought it would be fun to capture ever step I took coming out of the restrooms. It took me a while to realize he was taking pictures.

Finally, on Saturday I attended the wedding of a dear friend from school, Leila Stewart. The funny thing is she married a Dacula guy! Leila and I have found so many connections. One of my best friends in Rome grew up with her and now she is close to people who grew up at Hebron. The wedding was in Crawfordville near where she grew up. It was beautiful. Several of us from work went and had a great time talking and laughing during the ride to and from.

Me and Leigh Anne, my new found friend! I can't wait to have a my classroom next to hers this coming year! She is a precious Christian friend and too sweet!

The coming 2 weeks I could use the prayers of my friends and family! My portfolio is due mid July for my masters and I need to finish it by the middle of next week! Being summer and all I have had a hard time focusing and finishing it. Please pray that I will work diligently and not get distracted. I also don't want to take away from mine and Rando's time together so I need to do it while he is either at work or asleep! Thank you for your prayers!

Our week in Florida

This last week we enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ft. Walton Beach and then over to Panama City. We were down there for the College Retreat (Rando spoke during the morning sessions). We went a day early and stayed an extra day for some much needed rest and "us" time. The last few weeks have been crazy with the adult basketball tournament and me finishing my masters (I only have my portfolio left to do), so we haven't seen much of each other. During the retreat we enjoyed awesome worship and digging into the Word as we looked at how to be ready to give an answer to the world when asked why we believe. I personally learned so much from Rando and Paul as they preached on defending our faith.

We also enjoyed fellowshipping with old and new friends. I really enjoyed laying by the pool for hours with Pam Turner (she taught me piano when I was in elementary school and now we were able to talk and share as adults). This trip reminded me of how much I missed Hebron the last 8 years and how glad I am to be back. We also enjoyed getting to know Paul and Missy Perkins (and their precious boys) better. The college kids were a lot of fun too. Here is a picture that makes me feel old! I babysat these HBC staff kids (of course they are adults now).

On Wed. night we drove over to Destin to see a dear college friend, Josh. It was so neat to hear what all God is doing in their family.

After the group left, we took the scenic route over to PCB. We found a hotel and then headed to my favorite place to get a steak, Angelos. For those of you who know my dad this confirms that I am his child! Thursday night we ate, played putt-putt, walked on the beach, and got in the pool.

Friday, we drove back and picked up our precious baby, Noodle! She missed me the most (okay... I know she is a daddy's girl, but I like to think she missed me too).

Saturday we went to the Braves game (as you can tell this is our favorite summer outing) with my sister, Dana. It was extremely hot and I will be okay if I never go to another day game in June, July, or August as long as I live. In the 9th inning Bobby Cox made our long hot day worth it when he tied Tug McGraw's record for most ejections. The three of us have been saying for a while that we wanted to be at the game where he hit this milestone and we were! I know it is sad that we wanted to be there for this, but it is funny to watch him fuss!

Sunday, we were back at church and what a wonderful day it was. The sermon was great. I encourage you to check it out at www.hebronchurch.org.

I have already been bad at keeping up with this blog, and I don't have any excuses. The past 2 weeks have been busy ones. Last Wednesday (June 6th - my dad's birthday) I presented with a group of teachers from my school at the Gwinnett County Public Schools' Leadership Conference. Yes, pretty intimidating! There were 20+ principals and assistant principals in the room. It was nice to have some friendly faces in the room (my mom was in there along with some of the administration from my school). It went really well, and reaffirmed to me that yes I do want to go into leadership at some point.

Last Friday was my 27th birthday. Someone had given us 4 Braves' tickets so we took my sister and one of Rando's high school friends. We had a great time. I am including a few pictures of that great night below. The Braves looked pitiful. Alfonso Soriano hit 3 homeruns in the first 4 innings. I have to admit that I wasn't too upset about that b/c he is on my fantasy baseball team (yes, Rando and Dana suckered me into fantasy baseball).

Saturday we went to Outback with my mom and dad to celebrate mine and my dad's birthdays. It was a nice evening out. This week I have been in a class so no fun stuff to report.

First Try at a Blog

I have enjoyed reading blogs of some friends I haven't seen in ages so I thought this might be a way to catch our friends up on where we are today. Of course there won't be any pictures of kids to look at (sorry to our parents). Right now we are enjoying summer. It has been so nice to spend evenings together and not have to rush off to bed. I am actually getting to stay up later than Rando right now!

This last Saturday we celebrated our 6 year anniversary. We decided to eat at Benihana because that is where we ate the night we got married. We enjoyed spending time just the two of us. Of course we showed our age because we came home and played Rummikub.

I am in my last few weeks of my masters program and I cannot wait to not have papers to write. I am going to rest awhile from school before possibly going on to get my specialist. We will wait and see what God has ahead for us, because I cannot imagine going back to school for another degree if we have kids.

This coming weekend we have several fun things planned for my birthday so I will try to update later!
